Sue Hoegg & Jennifer Chaplin

stop no. 7
Sue Hoegg is an award-winning photographer, watercolourist, porcelain painter and mixed-media creator. Originally from Nova Scotia, Sue completed a twenty-five-year career in toxicology in Canada’s public service. Along the way, she became a skilled photographer and painter.
This year, Sue created Dream Ponies: shadow boxed, hand-made porcelain ponies to ride away into your dreams. As a friend once said to her, “…but we must sleep, for when we sleep, we go home. No matter what life may take from you, it can never take your dreams.”
Sue also produces note cards showing the exquisite work of Ottawa’s Gwladys Williams Menzies, a renowned 20th century porcelain painter.
Jennifer Chaplin, after retiring from paid employment for the second time, finally embraced the opportunity to return to her big love: working with fabric. A keen member of the Ottawa English Dance Society, Jennifer made many regency gowns for their annual costume ball. Having run out of storage space in her wardrobe, she moved on to produce smaller items, such as her finely crafted zipper pouches, shopping bags, cosmetic bags and artists’ brush rolls that she is now offering.
Sue: “In the end, dreams may be all you have. So a magic pony that waits by your bed can perhaps carry you home when you most need to be there.”
Jennifer: “I enjoy working with my hands, a habit I picked up from my father who worked with wood and watercolours.”
